Winter Hike to the Stone Men

General description

The “Stoanerne Mandln“ stone men are located atop a remarkable knoll on Alpine pasture and tower at an elevation of 2,000 metres. Human figures made of stone such as these can also be found in other parts of South Tyrol: they served as a landmark frequently or were simply built by shepherds to pass the time.

Route description

The hike starts from the parking lot Le Noir Forest Parking in Vöran/Verano and follows trail no. 16 to the Leadner Alm Mountain Hut. From there, it continues on trail no. 11 to the Vöraner Alm Mountain Hut and then follows the E5 European long-distance hiking trail to the pass Auener Joch and finally to the Stoanernen Mandln (2,003m).

The return route is via the Möltner Kaser and the Sattler Hütte Mountain Huts, following trail no. 15 to the Kircheben parking lot. From there it continues to Hohlweg, where you can pick up the bus n. 204 back to Verano (please check bus schedule).

Note: The Vöraner Alm is closed in winter, but Möltner Kaser and Sattler Hütte are both open to guests on weekends and holidays.
