In German: Burgi, the baby is coming! Stories of a midwife

‘Great things happen at every birth. Nothing is more normal, nothing more unique than a birth.’
When the phone rings, Burgi dashes off. She is a home birth midwife and she knows that births are anything but predictable. She feels she has to be faster than nature. But then, when she gets there, she has to leave the woman in peace: ‘A woman giving birth knows intuitively what she needs, nature has arranged it that way’. In addition to her midwifery skills, Burgi Künig is also a great storyteller, her stories just bubble out of her: she talks about the time when her husband had the brilliant idea of using a snorkel so that his wife could submerge herself in the birthing pool during every contraction, but still continue to breathe with concentration.

Burgi Künig: born at home in 1953, grew up in Dietenheim near Bruneck and is the oldest freelance homebirth midwife in South Tyrol.
