Katzenzungen Castle – get married under the oldest grapevine in the world
Even stars and celebrities celebrate their weddings on Katzenzungen Castle, and there was even once a surprise wedding at the castle where the bride knew nothing in advance and suddenly found herself at her own wedding, transmitted by a television station that films fairytale weddings live. Versoaln" grapevine is something truly special. For a long time people believed that it was more than 600 years old, although scientific research classifies it as being “only“ 360 years old. Despite its advanced age, the vine still produces grapes, from which about 300 bottles of fine white wine are pressed every year. In addition, the majestic plant provides the perfect backdrop for romantic wedding photos.
On Katzenzungen Castle lovers can get married year-round. “And there is always a perfect "Plan B" for the possibility of inclement weather," says Pobitzer. All of the halls, lounges and outdoor areas can be used exclusively, and in winter the entire castle is heated. Three floors of antique charm, filled with antique furniture, frescoes and works of art. The castle was first mentioned in writing in 1244, owned at the time by Henricus de Cazenzunge. In the Middle Ages and the following centuries, it was subsequently owned by several influential families before being subject to years of decay until it was acquired by Josef Pobitzer in 1978. With his son Ernst, he restored it to its old magic. Today it is used for various culinary, cultural and corporate events. And of course, for fairytale weddings.
