Merano/Meran offers a wide range of leisure activities. The canoeroute, for example, starts at the Gilfpromenade trail and runs along the Passer River in the center of the city. To the south extends the
Merano racecourse, which is also used as a venue for international competitions. If you want to ride yourself, you will find the right Haflinger horse in the riding stables of the area. Tennis is also possible directly in the city center, right next to the campsite "Camping Merano", where there are well-maintained sand and indoor courts.
Ten minutes‘ drive south of Merano, beginners and professionals alike can enjoy a game of golf in idyllic surroundings, while ten minutes drive north, the porphyry walls at Fragsburg present a challenge to climbing enthusiasts.
Paragliders will find ideal starting points around Merano on the steep mountains and slopes: starting from Tirolo/Dorf Tirol, the Hirzer mountain or the Merano 2000 plateau and gliding through the air down to Merano is an unforgettable experience.
A niche sport in Merano and surroundings is rafting, including canyoning and tarzaning, which is offered on the waters of Merano, the Etsch and the Passer rivers, as well as in the nearby Passeiertal Valley near Saltusio/Saltaus and in Castelbello/Kastelbell in the Vinschgau Valley. The canyons of Deutschnonsberg are also an ideal spot for canyoning.
