Winter wonderland for the whole family

A skiing holiday is fun for young and old

Skiing holiday with the kids? - Of course!
Are there suitable ski resorts for them? – Needless to say!
And what if I'm a beginner myself? - There are also ski courses for adults!
And if I prefer to enjoy the spa area in the hotel? - The magic word is childcare!
With ski kindergarten and all-round childcare? - Of course, even with multiple awards!
When my children are already teenagers? - Adventure awaits them in the snow park. And lots of new friends!

Winter wonderland, where are you?
When everything in the city is grey in grey, the heart longs for sunshine. When, between the canyons of houses, the already sparse daylight is dimmed by a thick blanket of clouds, the body suffers from lack of sunrays. The magnetic pull of the mountains becomes stronger and stronger. We want to go to a place where Mother Hulda diligently shakes the beds overnight and we wake up to bright sunshine in the morning. There we can let our gaze wander over freshly snow-covered mountain peaks and wide fields of snow with perfectly groomed slopes.

Which ski resort is suitable for families?
Finding the right destination for a skiing holiday with the family is not easy. Should it be the big ski resort? Or would you prefer a small, fine and clearly laid out ski area? We have found that in the end it's not the kilometres of slope that count. What creates lasting memories are the friendly smiles, the personal relationship with the host, the warm hospitality in the ski huts.
Tip: The ski resorts on the southern side of the Alps are blessed with considerably more hours of sunshine in winter than areas north of the main Alpine ridge.

Unforgettable holidays
The average length of a ski holiday in South Tyrol is less than five days. To make the most of these five days, the general conditions have to be right: Slopes and snow conditions, comfortable lift facilities and alpine cuisine are at least as important as the accommodation. Ski hotels for families pay special attention to the needs of children and offer appropriate packages. Cosy and stylishly furnished rooms, suites and holiday flats become a cherished home during the precious holiday days.

Off to the slopes - but safely!
In the ski kindergarten and ski school, the little ones can gain their first skiing experience in a safe environment. Trained ski instructors introduce the children to the sport in a playful and age-appropriate way and teach them the joy of skiing and - no less important - how to behave on the slopes. After they have made their first turns on the flat slopes, the magic carpet brings them back to the start very easily. Of course, there’s also space for snowfun without skis: romping in the snow, snowball fights and building snowmen are must dos during the skiing holiday.

Off the slopes: Tobogganing fun or winter magic
If you need a rest from skiing, you can have fun on toboggan runs, work off your energy on cross-country skiing trails, take a fun horse-drawn carriage ride or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the untouched winter landscape. Winter hiking in snow-covered forests has a very special magic. Especially in small ski resorts, you don't have to walk for kilometres to get there. Once you walk around the corner, a very special and almost magical silence immediately settles over the world.

Relax in large spa areas
What would a ski holiday be without relaxation in the sauna? Ski hotels with large wellness and spa areas help you to quickly leave everyday life behind and take home lasting deep relaxation. Steam baths, Finnish saunas, bio saunas and soothing massages are the icing on the cake of a successful family ski holiday.

Regional cuisine with local products
Regional, local, traditional: in small-structured areas like in the Merano region in South Tyrol, local producers are able to supply small and medium-sized hotel businesses with their products. This is a win-win situation for producers, hosts and ultimately also for guests. More and more producers are switching to sustainable production, and some are already certified organic farmers. Because Kaiserschmarrn made from eggs from happy local chickens naturally tastes twice as good.

Conclusion
For a skiing holiday with the family, it doesn't have to be the big ski resort. Small and medium-sized ski resorts have caught up and modernised in recent years. Comfortable lifts, perfectly groomed slopes, lovingly run family hotels, cosy holiday flats and warm-hearted people make the stay familiar and very special.

A long way: the history of transport in Hafling
Until the early 1980s, when the road from Meran to Hafling was finally built, the plateau below the Ifinger could only be reached by cable car, which between 1923 and 1984 carried locals and visitors from Obermais to St. Kathrein. Luis Reiterer, who was mayor of Hafling from 1974 until 1980 takes a look back.
