Alpine Tour to the Alplerspitze Mountain (2,748 m)

Starting point: Prantach - 6th bend

End point: Prantach - 6 hairpin bend

Refreshment stop: Fartleis Alm
Route description
At the parking lot on the 6th bend on the way to the village of Prantach/Prantago, head (northeast) to the start of the Fartleistal valley then turn south-east before arriving at some mountain farms. The wide mountain path leading further into the valley leads to the Fartleiseralm mou8ntain pasture. Proceed in an easterly direction across a series of hairpin bends up a steep slope as far as the Hühnerspielalm mountain hut. Cross over the grassy slope (eastwards) and then cross over a steep scree and a rocky section up a chimney up to the ridge. Turn right (southwards) along the ridge and then bear left along a narrow path (with secured safety cables) to reach the Alplerspitze summit.

From Meran to the Passeier Valley in S. Martino/St. Martin until Prantach.

Parking
Parking is available at the parking lot of the 6th bend on the Prantach road or at the new parking lot further back in the valley in front of the Fartleishöfe.
Public transport
There is no public bus to Prantach. For this tour you need a car to get to the starting point.
Safety instructions
This long and technically demanding summit tour requires a good physical condition, surefootedness and a head for heights. Especially the steep ascent through the chimney is very laborious. The last part on the summit ridge is very exposed and requires from the climbers caution, surefootedness and high concentration.
Equipment
Good hiking boots, hiking clothing and rain protection are recommended
