South Tyrol is calling! Are you looking forward to your holiday in Parcines, Rablà and Tel as much as your dog is?
This is the perfect place for you and your dog: fresh, clean air, long walks and adventurous hikes will make sure that you have an unforgettable holiday in Merano and Environs.
Be they big or small, lazy or active - in Parcines there are lots of different hikes for dogs and their masters. How about a leisurely walk along a Waalweg (irrigation channel path)? Or a visit to Parcines waterfall? And for anyone looking to escape the heat in the valley, there's always the option to take one of the two cable cars (don’t forget to bring a muzzle). The wonderful alpine pastures and breathtaking views will delight both of you...
Coming to South Tyrol
Don’t forget to bring a correctly filled in EU Pet Passport (available from vets).
This passport must contain details of the rabies vaccination required for entering the country.
The vaccination must have taken place at least 21 days and no more than one year prior to entry.
Compulsory Leads
Dogs must be kept on a lead throughout Italy!
Owners who do not keep their dogs on a lead and/or who fail to keep an eye on their dog can expect to be fined!
There is a penalty of 100 euros for allowing your dog to stray. If it can be proven that your pet has injured a wild animal, then higher fines are likely, as the legislation covering animal cruelty applies.
Compulsory Muzzles
A muzzle must always be carried too and used if necessary (public transport, cable cars).
Dog owners are also required to clear up their dog’s excrement.
Public Transport in South Tyrol
Guide dogs and small animals that can be carried in your arms or transported in a cage or container measuring no more than 70×30×50 cm may travel free of charge.
All others may travel with a single ticket or the
Mobilcard Junior (1, 3 or 7 days).
Dogs must always wear a muzzle (excluding very small species of dog), must be kept on a lead and may not sit on the seats.
Dogs in Cable Cars/Lifts
A muzzle is required if you wish to travel with your dog in one of our cable cars (may be purchased at the
Texelbahn cable car valley station!) The dog must also be kept on a lead. Some cable cars do not require a muzzle to be worn by your dog; please ask before boarding the car. Normally dogs travel at a reduced rate up and down the mountain; some mountain railway companies will even allow your four-legged friend to travel for free.
Cooling down for your dog
In order to cool off from the hot summer temperatures, sometimes only a jump into the cool water helps. So that the summer holiday is also an experience for four-legged water rats, here are some lakes where dogs are allowed to swim:
>> Vernagt lake in the Schnalstal/Val Senales Valley
>> Zufrittsee lake in the Martelltal/Val Martello Valley
>> Lake Resia in Vinschgau/Val Venosta
>> Zoggler reservoir in the Ultental/Val D'ultimo Valley
Dogs are not allowed in the lakeside bathing areas for hygienic reasons for example at Lake Kaltern.
At the Montiggler Lakes in Eppan/Appiano there is a ban on dogs during the bathing season from 15 May to 15 September.
At other lakes, such as the Felixer Weiher (biotope), prohibition signs are attached, and disregarding them will be punished.
In our municipal area, your four-legged friend is welcome to refresh himself during a hike at the Partschins waterfall and in cool mountain streams.
Swimming in the biotope in Rabland/Rablà is not allowed.
