The vineyard "Geier Bernhard" is the steepest vineyard in South Tyrol which is accessible by vehicles. In the mids of deciduous and coniferous forests, it is situated 550 meters above sea level on the mountain of Marlengo. It belongs to Bernhard Geier, the CEO of the Geier GmbH. The company produces tracked vehicles, especially vehicles that are specialized for viticulture. That way the 1.8 hectares large vineyard with a slope of up to 75 percent, is operated partly by hand and partly with the aid of these own-produced vehicles. At the same time, particular attention is paid to the natural and biological cultivation. Furthermore, no pesticides and glyphosate are used. The soil is rocky and composed of loam. In the morning the vines are ventilated by the slight up winds and in the evening by the down winds. That gives the grapes a special character. Harvesting of the two fungus-resistant grape varieties takes places End of August and mid-September.
The sparkling wine of the vineyard is named "Steil". The name comes from German and means "steep". Steil is a Cuvée of the grape varieties Bronner and Solaris. Sparkling and with subtle aromas, it reminds of peach, pineapple and lemon. Each year more than 10,000 bottles are filled. The sparkling wine is available directly at the yard as well as in the Center Market Marling.
On the public car park next to the hotel Waldschenke can be parked for free.
The bus line 212 stopps direct in the centre of Marling/Marlengo.
