Lecture: Donne nella memoria

31-1-2025 18:00 - 19:30

Considerate se questa è una donna
Senza capelli e senza nome
Senza più la forza di ricordare
Gli occhi vuoti e il grembo freddo
Come una rana in inverno
(Primo Levi)

Women, mothers, wives, sisters, friends. All these and many more were the thousands of women who were victims of the Holocaust.

They were often subjected to particularly brutal persecution by the nazi regime, and entire concentration camps and special areas within these camps were specifically designated for women. In addition to psychological and verbal violence, the female figures in the dramatic events of the Shoah suffered another form of violence for many years: the elimination of history.

- Mafalda of Savoy. She was an Italian princess and married the German Prince Philipp, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel. After the armistice of 8 September 1943, she was arrested by the Germans in Rome and imprisoned in the Buchenwald concentration camp.

- The women who bombed Auschwitz. In 1944, four female prisoners stole the gunpowder from a warehouse that caused a crematorium to be exploded, killing numerous SS men and commandants.

- Alma Maria Rosé. Austrian violinist, conducted the famous “Mädchenorchester” in Auschwitz.

By and with Francesca Ferragina, pedagogue, family mediator, but above all a great lover of history and advocate of equal rights.

As part of the initiatives coordinated by the Municipality of Merano for the Day of Memory.
