Route description

Alpine Tour to the Seelenkogel Mountain

Just after entering the village from the Plan/Pfelders car park, turn right and head down to the Edelweiss Inn. Turn left over the bridge, and then bear right in a north-westerly direction before crossing through a sparse larch forest. Follow the path uphill until you reach another bridge and continue along a well-worn path leading up to a rocky ledge. Bear left and follow the trail leading into the valley, and across a stream. Trail 6A leads south-westwards up the slope and then northwest to the Schneidalm mountain hut.

Follow the trail southwest up to the Obere Schneide. After a flat section, head northwest and across numerous hairpin bends over a steep ridge. At the top, continue along the flat terrain over a stony rise to the right, before ascending. Cross a snow field and then follow the well-defined path that leads across the exposed rockface, and up to the Zwickauer Hütte mountain hut, which is visible from a distance.

Trail 6A takes you from the Zwickauer Hütte down to the Schneidalm. From there cross over the meadows back down to Plan.

Safety instructions
This substantial Alpine tour requires a good head for heights, extreme sure-footedness and experience in light climbing. In early summer, a few very steep snowfields block the path (especially near the peak), making it hardly passable. In the steep terrain, there is a danger from falling rocks, especially when several people are walking close together. On the ridge, a few very exposed sections must be crossed. There are good foot and hand holds on the few short scrambles. At no point should one lose sight of the signs as one may otherwise quickly find oneself in impassable terrain.
Equipment
Good walking shoes, walking clothes and rain gear are recommended.
