Schenna/Scena is characterized by its natural as well as cultural diversity. Sights such as the Archduke Johann Mausoleum or the Schenna Castle are explained to visitors with information panels or site-specific exhibitions. Interested visitors can also explore the remarkable mineral and butterfly exhibition at the Schenna Library.
Additional museum archives and exhibitions around Schenna can be found above all in Meran/Merano, located beneath Schenna, and in Dorf Tirol/Tirolo. At these sites, the history of the region is told from different perspectives. The most significant are the South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History, known as the cradle of Tyrol and the ancestral castle of the Tyrolean Counts; the Touriseum, a museum of the history of tourism located in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle; and the Palais Mamming in the old town of Meran. The Jewish Museum at the Meran Synagogue, the Women's Museum and the Provincial Castle all tell further stories of life in and around Meran.
New museums and galleries such as Kunst.Merano.Arte and the ES Gallery are dedicated to contemporary art. Open-air museums such as the MuseumPasseier and the Archeopark Schnalstal/Val Senales convey tangible and visual impressions of the life of the region in times past. The Messner Mountain Museum is dedicated to the everyday life of mountain peoples and is owned and operated by the famed extreme mountain climber Reinhold Messner at Juval Castle.
