The Merano High Mountain Trail near Parcines

For those up to the challenge, the famous Merano High Mountain Trail n° 24 near Partschins/Parcines is an exciting hike. Divided into six stages, the 110 km circuit extends across the Texelgruppe mountain range with breath-taking views of the Dolomites, the Rosengarten and Ortler mountains.

The kitchens in the mountain hut and shelters along the trail serve traditional specialties with homemade fruit juices and local alcoholic beverages.

The Merano High Mountain Trail may be reached using the panoramic Texelbahn Cable Car from Parcines. Each of the six stages of the Merano High Mountain Trail can be broken down, without having to walk the entire length in one go. A very rewarding part of the Merano High Mountain trail is the stage from the Texelbahn Cable Car mountain station cross the Gorge of a Thousand Steps (1000-Stufen-Schlucht) to the Unterstell Cable Car in Naturno/Naturns and to Monte Santa Caterina / Katharinaberg in the Val Senales Valley / Schnalstal.

As already known, the Merano High Mountain Trail from Monte Santa Catarina (Katharinaberg) alla Val di Fosse (Pfossental) is closed due to rockfalls in the spring.
A detour leads about 3 km along a paved road. This is not pleasant. A shuttle service from Katharinaberg to Vorderkaser is expected to be available soon. We will inform you as soon as it is operational. The closure in Katharinaberg may possibly be lifted later this year. The situation at the Tumlmure is more difficult, where the affected section is currently closed for an indefinite period. Due to the safety situation, geologists have clearly said no to reopening. Safety analyses and drone flights have confirmed that crossing is currently not possible. However, there are already possible solutions that, if funding is available, could allow implementation by 2025.
