On the slopes around the sunny plateau of Schenna/Scena, viticulture has played a major role for centuries. Nevertheless, today more than ever before, it is quality and not quantity that counts with lack of large growing areas. Vines stretch along the panoramic Mitterplattweg slope and adorn the steep, sun-drenched vineyards of the local church hill. In addition to the large winery consortium Meran/Merano Burggräfler, there are about 30 independent wine farmers in Schenna and Meran and Environs. For example, the Rametz winery in Meran has a large selection of elegant wines on offer.
A large selection of quality wines can also be found at the renowned Innerleiterhof winery in Schenna. This farm has been noted in South Tyrol for many decades for its high quality wines. The Pföstl winery also offers remarkable wines, available for sale in the family-owned farm shop. Schenna's first farm distillery is the Torgglerhof distillery, which uses the fruits and grapes of the region to produce first-class fruit spirits and pure-grain distillates.
